Working within the field of counselling, I find that when people have opportunities to safely express themselves, all kinds of possibilities open up. My approach to counselling is to create the conditions for people to feel safe and connect with their thoughts and feelings to promote meaningful healing, growth, and change. I provide a non-judgmental space in which people may explore, discover, and reconnect with their own strengths and resiliency.
In my clinical practice I offer both counselling and art therapy from a client-centered and humanistic perspective. I believe people have the internal resources to heal themselves and I view counselling as a collaborative practice in which I work together with clients, often times like a guide, based on their own unique needs.
Art therapy is an expressive therapy that allows people to connect with themselves and work through challenges in ways that differ from verbal therapies. Anyone can do art therapy. No artistic training or skill is required. Art therapy taps into an inner wisdom and often provides healing and unexpected insights. In my practice I use art therapy based on the comfort and desire of the client.
Other counselling approaches I draw from include person-centered, narrative, cognitive behavioural, solution-focused, existential, attachment and developmental theory, and mindfulness, which are informed by anti-oppression and social justice frameworks, taking larger social systems into account and how they impact and interact with people's lives.
I offer individual counselling to youth, adults, and to children and families.
Areas of focus include:
Trauma and complex PTSD
Gender identity, including trans and non-conforming genders
Coming out issues
Current or past abuse (emotional, physical, and/or sexual)
Intimate partner violence/abuse
I am currently available for in person counselling at Dragonstone Counselling on Sundays. My standard rate, inclusive of GST, is $110 for individual counselling. I also offer a sliding scale option for people facing financial barriers.
