"Have patience with everything that remains unsolved in your heart. Try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books written in a foreign language... At present you need to live the question. Perhaps you will gradually, without even noticing it, find yourself experiencing the answer." - Rainer Maria Rilke - Letters to a Young Poet.
Understanding ourselves, and the history that we carry, is key to healing. As a counsellor, my role is to help clients find their questions in order to begin a process of healing and growth. Creating a context of safety and curiosity is key to exploring not only inwards, but outwards into the powerful external and systemic forces that influence our lives.
Working from a framework of attachment and person-centred care, my counselling work is guided by a trauma lens with a strong feminist and anti-oppression background. I support my clients using a number of techniques based in emotion-focused, solution-focused and somatic therapies, as well as mindfulness practices.
My areas of focus are:
Intimate Partner Violence/Abuse
Childhood Trauma (emotional, physical, sexual abuse)
Post-Traumatic Stress and Trauma
Grief and Loss
Caregiver Stress and Ambiguous Grief
I offer counselling in both English and French and can provide counselling in person, by phone or on skype. My fees are on a sliding scale of $40 to $110 per hour. As I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the BCACC, most extended health plans cover some of the cost.
