Carsen Farmer, MC, RCC-ACS
(They/them)
A counsellor, adventurer, and proponent of social justice, I work to promote human well-being. I enjoy exploring diverse perspectives, finding common ground, and seeing the bigger picture. My approach is collaborative, client-centred, and integrative, drawing on cognitive, emotional, somatic, and expressive approaches to therapy. I offer LGBTQ+ competent individual counselling and kink- and poly-friendly relationship counselling for all unique configurations. In addition, I provide clinical supervision to counselling interns and clinical consultation to counsellors. I also teach counselling skills and theory at post-secondary institutions in the Vancouver area.
Operating from within an anti-oppression and social justice framework, I hope to walk alongside you on your journey for a time. Offering inquisitive exploration, I provide a supportive container and hold space for what emerges without judgement. Within this context, we can investigate the thoughts, feelings, and sensations that arise, and examine them with discernment, acceptance, and transformation.
In my work, I draw on my Level 1 Internal Family Systems (IFS) training from the IFS Institute, as well as Level 1 Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) Immersion training from the AEDP Institute. I hold a Level 1 certification in Gottman Method Couples Counselling from Best Marriages, and Level 1 and 2 Narrative Therapy Certifications from Yaletown Family Therapy. I incorporate Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, as well as expressive arts and sand tray techniques in my work. I am also trained in Aboriginal [Indigenous] Focusing-Oriented Therapy (now called IFOT), through the Justice Institute of BC. My training in clinical supervision and consultation includes Vikki Reynold's Supervision of Solidarity, a Clinical Supervision Certificate Course by Janet White, and an Advanced Feminist Supervision training by Jennifer Hollinshead. I am available as an Approved Clinical Supervisor (RCC-ACS) to mentor ACS candidates.
